Musicians:

Z
Guitar / Zyzzyone Music / Seattle
Z

Z grew up in Memphis where a culture of music pulsed around him. He lived in the Idaho mountains before moving to Seattle, Washington, in 1986. He was playing his 12-string guitar live in the desert at Burning Man when he discovered the raw minimalistic elements found on the CD, "Water Sines—Tone Poems in the Key of H²O". Z noticed that a persistent, beatless groove delivered in a single key produced a calming effect on the gathered audience. Z pays homage to Indian music and in particular the tambura, a four-string lute used for its drone sound. He gets inspiration from the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and Gurumayi Chidvilasananda. Z is a self-taught musician who has been playing music for many lifetimes.

Paul Wagner
Flute / Sacred Breath / Seattle
Paul Wagner Pic

Che oke' ten (Paul Wagner), Native American flutist, drummer/singer and storyteller of the Saanich (Coast Salish) tribe, shares the beautiful songs and stories of his ancient northwest coast Sissiwiss (“sacred breath”/”sacred life”) spirituality, in cultural presentations and ritual and public performances, in the United States and abroad. Based out of Seattle, Washington, Che oke' ten has worked with some of the Pacific Northwest's great artists such as Eyvind Kang, Bill Frisell, Gina Sala and Johnny Moses.

Che oke' ten comes from a lineage of Shneh'em, medicine people who have dedicated their lives to healing work using many tools, including music. He continues this work through traditional sound healing and ritual performance. Che oke' ten's Native American flute songs have come to him with visions of healing and prayer for all relations (tree people, animal people, human people). He believes music comes to us directly from Spirit; leaving yourself open to Spirit is the way; asking for the gifts to come so we can gift the music to those who need such blessings. Along with his traditional Native American flute.

Che oke' ten also plays mbira from Zimbabwe, didgeridoo, Chipendani (Zimbabwean mouth bow), guitar, bass, trombone, drum and voice. Winner of Best Album in the 2009 Just Plain Folks music awards for Journey of the Spirit.

Steve Davis
Hang Drum / Seattle
Steve Davis

The first time I saw and heard the Hang Drum I was completely entranced. Its sound took me into the ancient past and its shape transported me into the future. Its unusual tones are both soothing and mysterious. I usually play for my yoga students before and after class as a way of helping to bring about unity of consciousness. I feel blessed to posses this relatively new instrument (about 10 years old), which is a Swiss innovation on the steel drums of the Caribbean, and to be able to share its sound with the world.

“My daughter Dahlia and I moved from Hawaii to Seattle. I like to stay close to the ocean, the insistent, endlessly patient message of its waves. Words are a boat that carry me into the open. I write and teach under my own roof under the sky. I love when the roof busts off, audience and their fellow travelers onstage uniting with the moment, its liquid life, its nameless wings.” Recordings, and more can be found at www.karindeweille.com
